The global maritime environment is becoming more complex. Great power competition, transnational criminal organizations, rapid technological advancements, cyber threats, and devastating national disasters are straining maritime governance globally. What unique capabilities, authorities, and relationships does the Coast Guard bring to help the Nation confront the strategic challenges of today and tomorrow? With increasing demands for steady-state missions and crisis response at home and abroad, how is the Coast Guard ensuring it will continue to live up to its motto: Semper Paratus – Always Ready?
People are the center of the armed services and the most valued asset. However, changing generational norms are creating different expectations for career, family and spouses, so the strategies of yesterday to recruit, train, employ and retain the force will not succeed for the workforce of today or tomorrow. Faced with increasingly complex demands for worldwide operations, how are the armed services maximizing human potential through modernized talent management practices to enhance mission readiness?
We are in the midst of historic transition in cyberspace, and the threat landscape is evolving rapidly. U.S. sea services and the private sector face persistent, nefarious cyber activity in a highly dynamic threat environment. Panelists will discuss how their organizations are confronting the challenges of defending globally interconnected networks and systems, while building the capabilities to ensure cyber resilience in the future.

Illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing is a security, economic and environmental threat with damaging effects for oceans and coastal states around the world. Working with other U.S. government agencies, like-minded foreign partners, regional fisheries management organizations and nongovernmental organizations, the U.S. Coast Guard will provide leadership to protect and promote sovereignty; support cooperative enforcement of international laws; and drive stability, legitimacy and order in the maritime domain.
